Sci-Fi: He gazed out at the beautiful depths of space. From his flagship, The Banshee, the captain wondered at it. His loyal crew enjoyed their dangerous missions, for the scenery was fantastic. But they could not distract from the mission. The fact remained; they were pirates. Their secret cargo had to be smuggled and all risks must be avoided and all precautions taken. They felt proud they weren’t the rough-and-tough pirates of old, because they didn’t screw up. Yet this time they had forgotten to rule out one small thing; the crew itself.

Staring back at the little blue green planet that I use to call home I realized how much I would miss everyone I had ever known, and yet knowing that I could be one of the first people to find life in out of space just made me want to go on.

Planet Thoron was a red planet where everything was dry and sandy. The population consisted of merchants and mercenaries from foreign planets. Though at the moment the current 2 million beings who were on the planet were stranded. There was a deadly poison threatening the whole system and no pilot dared to fly their daily trips to the dangerous region. All of these people would die if nothing was done about it. They were on their own with no outside help. But one was no ordinary person.

It crashed in my backyard. Mine. Not the next-door neighbours, nor the street opposite. Not even in the middle of the street where it wouldn't be my problem. It landed in my backyard. Whether it chose to land here or not, I didn't know. But here it was. I looked at in disgust. A large green blob-like shape, resembling a giant slug. It writhed and pulsated like a heart. I knew it was alive. No doubt it had come from space - not that I really believe in aliens, but I could see know other alternative. It was like nothing I had ever seen on Earth before.
